It was certainly an ordeal, that trip. I think it’s the one time I’ve longed to be sitting at a desk instead of on a trip!

Excellent write-up! This was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure which may have been torture while you were in the middle of it, but which you will look back fondly on for the rest of your lives! Hey, when you’re in the retirement home, which story would you rather blurt out: “Let me tell you about the drive to the shopping mall when my car battery died”, or, “Let me tell you about our hike to a cave in Vietnam when it rained leeches and we survived”?

So many nightmarish components here I don’t know where to begin. You are both beasts, pure and simple, and I bow to you. The close vegetation with who-knows-what in it, the slipping and sliding and slow progress, the getting soaked, the entry into a cave whose roof had caved in (OK, that one made me wonder about your sanity), the potential snakes and tigers, and then raining LEECHES?! I sure hope with all that training you go back and do the 5-day to the biggest cave someday. 🙂
